Because learning enriches me!
Because being the best you can be drives me!
Because of my desire to help others around me!
Because I want others to say… “Grab Bill Heese… He really knows his stuff!”
All throughout high school and my first few years in college I didn’t really understand why learning was so important. I went mostly because other people wanted me to go. All I wanted to do was play guitar and take pictures. I figured that with my talent I’d never have to hold down a real job! I didn’t understand why I had to learn math or how to write correctly.
Later on during my path in academics I found that acquiring knowledge could be truly enjoyable. And it showed! At best I was an average student but once I found that I was there for me and not others, my grades improved dramatically. I earned my BFA in Film. The problem was it was too late go turn back the hands of time. The only jobs in film offer little or no pay. I’d already started with my life. I already started with credit card debts and car loans. So often it seemed as though the pay as too little for the right opportunity…I needed to join the work force. So I said goodbye to my career in film and developed film instead of making them. The pay was much better!
I don’t look back with regret… Indeed… I learned a lot more in college that how to make a motion picture. The most important thing that I walked away from college with was the ability to actually finish what I started. So many times in life I’ve run across people who started but never finished college. Sadly, more often than not, it is these people that can’t follow something threw to completion.
Amazingly my guitar playing is what brought me to where I am today. A while ago I wanted to capture my songs and record them. I recorded a lot using a tape recorder and found that I couldn’t get on tape everything that I had in my head. Someone suggested to me to buy a computer and use it to record my ideas. Well in my drive for perfection I spent more time fixing the computer than playing guitar. Funny things is I found I didn’t miss not playing. I found that I enjoyed fixing computers.
Today, many years later… I’m still fixing computers. I still have the enjoyment that I had right from the being. I found that during the course of my work I enjoyed teaching people what I know. I took great pleasure in explaining to then in a manner they could understand the complexities of why computers do the things they do… Both good and bad!
Once again I am faced with reality… chase my dream and go back to school or do the right thing and pay the bills. That’s where I hope that you will help me chase my dreams and make my returning to school a reality.
