That hurts!

So for those of you that don’t live local… It was 55 degrees here in Danbury today.

I purchased a set of Rugged Ridge XHD Bumpers (front and back) that I got early in January and were sitting in my basement waiting to be installed. I decided to burn a vacation day to take advantage of the warm weather and install them!

It took me 2 hours to install the front bumper… Part of it was spent uninstalling the fog lamps and the reinstalling them in the new bumper. Part of it was spent trying to get the holes lined up. I still need to get a winch… That’s the next purchase. I have a feeling I may need to remove the bumper to install the winch BUT I’m hoping not to!

The back bumper was much easier! It only took me 45 minutes… Again part of it was uninstalling the D shackle, as it shipped with them attached to the bumper. I had to reroute the hitch wire and line up the holes (which again was not easy).

I was worried that the Jeep might sag after the install but that didn’t happen I measured from the bottom of the fender flare to the street. 35.5″ all the way around before and after.

At the end of the day… I’m very happy with the look of the Jeep with the new bumpers.

First off you should always drive with your selt belt on! BUT if you must stop the seat belt warning from going off you can…

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY/RUN position (engine does not need to be running), and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
  3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.
  4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

OK so I was tired of having to pull leaves out from behind my grill and trying to squeeze my hand back behind always left my with cuts and scrapes! Not to mention that winter is coming and I really didn’t feel like having my radiator bashed up with all the rocks and sand that can get kicked up during a New England winter. SO I decided to perform a grill mod on my jeep. It is a fairly simple mod that just takes a little time to do.

The first thing you need to do is pull the 6 retaining plugs for the top of the grill. If it’s cold outside you may want to warm them up with a hairdryer first or you may find yourself purchasing 6 new ones because the were brittle can the tops cracked off.

Instead of disconnecting the turn signals I merely removed the bulbs which allowed the grill to pull free.

You have to do a number of things before really starting this project. I bought self adhesive zip tie blocks at Lowe’s (part # 45-1MBUVL, SKU 0 32076 07261 2). I soaked the adhesive backing off the mounting blocks. This takes a bit of time.

After prepping the back of the grill, I started attaching the mounting blocks with Gorilla Glue. The mounting blocks came in 1 inch and fit perfectly!

At this point you need to wait awhile until the glue sets up but once it does it’s a matter of attaching the material you chose for the grill. I chose plastic gutter covers. I was easy to work with, cheap and didn’t have to be painted. I did need a pair of hemostats to pull the zip ties through.

Trim of the excess zip tie and replace the grill on the front of your jeep and you’re all set!

Total Time?

Removing grill… 5 minutes
Peeling adhesive backing… 45 minutes
Glueing down the mounting blocks… 5 minutes
Attaching the grill material… 30 minutes
Replacing grill… 5 minutes

So… I recently bought a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited! I love this car and have been spending a lot of time trying to figure out which options were installed on the car when it was originally purchased. In the past other car manufactures used to encoded the options installed on the car in the VIN. Doing some research into the make up of the VIN on Jeep Wranglers this is what I came up with!
